There are countless “mountain tops” and lots of byways too up above Villa di Chiavenna. Here we suggest a double itinerary which sets you on your way to two different plateau. For the most part the roads have an asphalt surface. The slope on some stretches of the climb is severe and might require medium pedal assist. Leaving Villa the route skirts the lake heading for Switzerland, then shifts to the right and begins to climb going by way of the habitations of S. Barnaba and Canete. After a long series of hairpins, at the second junction head right up to the natural terrace of Pian Cantone (first route). Now set off back down to the earlier fork and climb again making two right shifts to reach the very particular natural shelf of Laghetti (Monte del Lago – second route). Returning to the first junction you begin the descent to the right on a dirt road which takes in Bondea before completing the circle near Lago di Villa.
